SGA: My Base Eleven

Finished up the final base head last night [now I need to get a base cast and start on the hair o_0]. Eleven heads in six months isn't bad...actually, given that I had a hard time getting ONE done in that time, this is actually dang incredible to me ^__^

The good guys: Sheppard [02/12], McKay [03/12], Teyla [02/12], Ronon [04/12], Weir [04/12], Beckett [05/12], Zelenka [07/12]

The "Bad" guys: Ford [06/12], Todd [06/12], Michael [06/12], Koyla [03/12]

Man, I hope I have enough steam yet to finish the whole figures now before I get distracted with something else...I'm just honestly amazed I've gotten this far.

SGA: Season 3 coats

Just a quick victory post.

I got TWO of these coats done...TWO!

Yeah, okay that leaves five more to go, but I'm just thrilled to have gotten this far with them! YAY!

Now to get printable fabric for the patches...

Atlantis: Check point

The plan is eleven completed figures from Stargate: Atlantis. Now, I started this project in early Feburary, so seeing as how it's now the six month mark I kinda want to document [for myself really] how far I've gotten as I've never tackled a project quite this big before. Actually, this will be my first  time just finishing a figure...so eleven seems pretty daunting o_0

Sheppard: Head's done, final cast, painted, and mounted on a body...working on final uniform

Teyla: Head's done, final cast, painted, and mounted on a body...working on final uniform

McKay: Head's done, final cast, painted, and mounted on a body...shirt, pants done....working on coat

Weir: Head's done, final cast, painted, and mounted on a body...working on final uniform

Ronon: Head's done, waiting on body for final cast

Beckett: Head's done, cast, painted, and mounted on a body...haven't started on uniform yet

Zelenka: Sculpting ears...haven't done first casting yet

Ford: Sculpting hair...haven't done final casting yet

Koyla: Head's done, final cast, painted, and mounted on a body. Uniform complete...just need to cast his hat ^_^

Michael: Head's done, cast, painted, and mounted on a body...haven't started on uniform yet

Todd: Head's done, just haven't completed final cast yet.

........and that's my line up as of July........

Uniforms: Atlantis Style

Can I just say sewing's a pain? Not my first choice of "creative expression" *snicker* but I see no other way of getting the right colors, look, and fit...let alone these uniforms in general, not exactly working with standard military issue here *sigh*.

So Rodney gets to play model as he's the one I've made the most clothes for [aside from Koyla, but that's a whole different pattern].

Going with the season 3 colors for Rodney here [as well as Beckett and Zelenka once I get them assembled]...if the pattern starts getting easier I'll probably make the season 1 tan ones as well.

Still need to finish off the other arm, add the collar, and complete the bottom.

And then repeat about six more times in various colors and sizes...yay.

Also, Still have to work on the pattern for the Wraith coats. Got the fabric though, so that's half the battle right there. Stupid Alligator print...will definitely share when I get that mocked up though.

The Renegade: Working on Aiden Ford

Another character I felt Diamond left out is Aiden Ford. He's a rather ordinary regular in season one...that is, until the writers decided to hop him up on Wraith Enzyme...then he actually became really cool! Sadly he didn't show up again after the "Lost Boys" two parter. [which still remains one of my favorite story archs]. So yeah, in my mind the dude deserves a figure ^__^

When done, the heads going on a Hot Toys Slim and geared up to match his appearance in "The Runner"...the pieced together outfit in the "Lost Boys" is a little over my head at this point.

As of right now I'm still trying to work out the texture of his hair...it's currently kicking my arse. While I doubt I'll put together a "normal" version of Ford [that may change] , I did sculpt his face normally and then recast to add the scars and hair...same process that I used on Michael and Todd [more on him later]

Joys of Painting

More work on Michael.

Patched up the back of his head and have been trying to get him painted up the last couple of nights

I'm a terrible "painter"which is why I cast the head in the final body's base color and then add layers of pastels to add some life to the head. I'm also still very new at this, so I don't have a set technique yet...just winging it.

Matte sealed the pastels and then added acrylic paint for the eyes and hair...seal again. Blended all out with the pastels once more...seal...then spritzed the whole thing with a Satin sealer. Glossed the eyes after that.

Feeling like he's basically done for now...though I may tweak him again in another couple of days when I get a chance to look at him with fresh eyes.

Wish I had a better camera for this...skin texture and vein work really isn't showing up well.

Boo.

The Headaches of Casting

I'm nearly done with stage one of a project I gave myself in February...try to recreate 11 characters from Stargate Atlantis. I had gotten myself rehooked on the show and it reminded me of how inadequate the Diamond Selects SGA figure line was in terms of characters. So I wanted to try and do a group of figures that included many of the characters I felt were sorely missing.

One being Michael...scary half human/half wraith dude. The head sculpt's done and just needs recast now. However, my mold is deciding to be a pain...

!GAAAH!
So far every cast looks like this...probably need to angle the mold differently so the air doesn't get so easily trapped...though I'm rather happy how well the rest of the details are coming out.
